The primary purpose of the International Distribution Sourcing Leader is to manage logistical supply chains (both within and outside the company)  to ensure International Paper is the most dependable and cost effective exporter of forest products in the world. 
The Sourcing Leader manages a team of direct reports and is responsible for procurement of transportation services, as assigned, principally by developing and executing sourcing strategies that optimize cost and service levels in line with business requirements/forecasts.  The position analyzes market and industry trends and conditions, develops supply chain recommendations, gains business unit approval, negotiates contracts for implementation and engages in supplier performance management. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development and execution of the international distribution global operating strategy.
  • Lead, develop and coach direct reports.
  • Engage in leading the development and delivery of key market information and trends that affect International Distribution, IP’s operations, and its commercial execution for exports.
  • Function effectively to increase profitability by negotiating the most competitive international distribution economics (on a TCO basis).
  • Leverage the company’s total export volume/spend in all negotiations, direct or indirect.
  • Negotiate and contract the best overall value proposition (cost and service) for international transportation services, while following the Global Sourcing Strategic Sourcing (CSSS) process.
  • Remain current on relevant U.S. and foreign maritime laws and regulations.Analyze the impact of changes to those laws and regulations, advising the business units accordingly.
  • Responsible for contract administration and management, and addressing related improvement opportunities with suppliers or internal stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce & control costs while maintaining required service levels.
  • Provide operational support and sourcing services (go-to-market strategies) to business/staff groups.
  • Work with business/staff groups to understand and document international transportation needs/business requirements to be addressed in the sourcing process.
  • Mentor and educate other international distribution buyers and business unit representatives.
 
 
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years related international supply chain or international business experience in a related industry, including international business acumen, planning, carrier operation management, and export transportation operations.
  • A minimum of 5 years sourcing, negotiating and supplier performance management.
  • Ocean shipping knowledge and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading, managing and coaching others.
  • Knowledge and application of Strategic Sourcing process or equivalent experience.
  • A demonstrated command of skills in TCO and network analysis and negotiations, project management, communications, change management and quality processes.Strong acuity in systems and processes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence internal and external customers in order to motivate them to effect desired results.
  • Team player and a leader, ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and tasks while learning on the fly.
