$143,200 - 190,900

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s management incentive plans.

The Job You Will Perform:

The Manager– Global Forest Technology and Resource Economics is responsible for providing thought leadership and technical direction for International Paper’s global fiber supply activities. The successful candidate will be a member of the Global Fiber Supply Lead Team and will be an active participant in issues related to tactical and longer-term fiber supply operations. The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, and is expected to be a safety leader, support company initiatives and policies, and be willing to take on additional tasks as they arise. The position reports to the Vice President, Global Fiber Supply in Memphis, TN.

 

DUTIES:

  • Ensure integration of best technical information and approaches into IP’s evaluation of domestic & global fiber supply issues & opportunities.
  • Identify emerging trends/opportunities/challenges/technologies relevant to IP’s fiber supply strategy and translate them into actionable recommendations.
  •  Lead IP’s multidisciplinary collaborative interactions with external technology programs and partners relevant to fiber supply (e.g., universities, governmental agencies, advocacy groups, contract service providers, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal resources (advanced analytics, disruptive technologies) to develop and integrate internal data management platforms & models (GIS, optimization, forecasting)
  •  Develop improved internal decision support tools, incorporating relevant systems/technologies (remote sensing, resource data, market models)
  • Provide technical guidance on the impacts of climate change and forest carbon issues related to fiber supply concerns, sustainability, and policy development.
  • Refine IP’s quantification and management of risk in its fiber supply chain.

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (experience within last 5 years):

  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills, including an understanding of sampling and modern analytics. Knowledge of modern computer programming languages and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SQL), and familiarity with remote sensing methods and data sources used to monitor forests and land uses.
  •  Familiarity with forest inventory and monitoring methods and databases, including the USDA Forest Service Forest Inventory & Analysis (FIA) database; understanding of how to apply FIA data, including its use in economic and timber supply modeling; knowledge of the theory and principles of forest biometrics, forest economics, forest management, and related disciplines,
  • Understanding of forest carbon dynamics & carbon offset markets
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills, and demonstrated professional writing skills
  • Understanding of the impact of domestic and international macroeconomic changes on wood prices, including regional and local supply/demand relationships and the effects of these relationships on historical, current, and future wood prices.
  • Ability to discern company wwod supply research needs and to translate them into clear, objective candidate projects.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, working independently and as a team player in a dynamic work environment.

EDUCATION: Highly preferred earned doctoral degree in forest biometrics, forest mensuration, forest economics, or a related field. An MS degree in an appropriate scientific discipline and five or more years of experience demonstrating increasing levels of personal/professional growth and leadership responsibility.
