The UNIX Services Systems Analyst position within Unix Services – Operations is responsible for the installation, configuration, and support of the Linux and UNIX Operating Systems platform at International Paper. The position provides expert technical consulting in the areas of OS operation, server architecture, and disaster recovery architecture.

The Technical Services group is responsible for the availability and performance of systems, providing customers with a high performance, stable, secure, and recoverable OS environment for all applications.

Activities:

  • Support Oracle Linux, Red Hat Linux, Solaris UNIX, and IBM AIX high performance / high availability environment.
  • Install and assist with the installation of equipment and operating systems required for the end-user applications.
  • Support day to day operations and perform system administration duties.
  • Work with other IT Groups to interface these systems as required to the existing infrastructure and network.
  • Consult with the Storage Management group to provide high performance configurations and backup to the UNIX platform.
  • Support UNIX infrastructure solutions.

Scope:

Current environment consists of 1,000+ servers running Solaris, AIX, and Linux.

The server platforms provide a consistent, secure, and recoverable environment for applications such as SAP, Oracle, TSM, Kiwi and others.

This position has responsibility to some degree for support of all of these servers, including 24X7 on-call support on a rotated basis. This position has no budget responsibilities or personnel reporting responsibilities.

Knowledge and Experience:

Bachelor or Technical degree, or equivalent experience.

6+ years of experience in an IT related role or equivalent

A candidate for this position should have a thorough understanding of large scale Oracle/Solaris, Oracle/Linux, Red Hat/Linux, and IBM/AIX Operating Systems – including an in depth knowledge of performance, configuration and monitoring.

The candidate should also have a thorough understanding of IT change management practices, ksh or similar shell scripting. An understanding of the SAP environments, Veritas Infoscale, EMC SRDF, and Spectrum Protect backup, and Oracle Database are also a plus.

Organizational Relationship:

This position reports to the UNIX Services – Operations Team Lead, who reports to the Manager of Unix Services within Enterprise Computing Services.
