Plant Superintendent

International Paper ( is the world’s largest paper and forest products company.  Primary businesses include paper, packaging and forest products for a variety of end uses.  International Paper is a Fortune 500 Company with operations around the globe. We currently have an opening for the Plant Supintendent at our facility located in Garden City, Kansas.  This facility manufactures corrugated packaging products for local and national customers.

Specific responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Successfully establish an operating environment that embraces continuous improvement processes achieved through team-based initiatives with particular focus applied to plant goals and scorecard measures.
  • Responsible for continued emphasis on work systems – solidify basic tools and lead the further development of high performance work teams.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with customers and sales group.
  • Support and contribute to the professional development of facility leadership for succession planning and cross-functional needs.
  • Insures jobs stay within budget and steers investigations of situations that result in jobs with excessive costs.
  • Maintain constant communication with facility lead team through active participation in daily production meetings, weekly lead team meetings and one-on-one sessions.
  • Assist department leaders in monitoring work in progress and schedule conformance.  Generates input on new equipment purchases for the facility as well as any major modifications of existing equipment.
  • Manage internal auditing processes.
  • Monitor Tracking Incidents and Credits System status and reporting.

Minimum qualifications for consideration are at least 3-5 years of manufacturing experience; preferably in a corrugated or converting environment.  The ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience in developing, implementing and managing high performance work systems and teams. Must be willing to dedicate 3-5 years to the Garden City, Kansas location. Key competencies are include building effective teams, command skills, customer focus, process management, drive for results, business acumen, managing through Systems, problem solving and developing direct reports.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
