The Prattville Mill is a complex, fully integrated pulp and paper manufacturing facility with two machines. The mill includes multiple process lines of wood handling, pulping, power and recovery, and effluent treatment. The scope of the position includes implementing, coordinating, maintaining, and monitoring the progress of environmental, health & safety programs. The position works within the EHS group and reports to the EHS Manager.
Position Responsibilities:
The EHS Specialist’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting environmental inspections for compliance with permit conditions including NPDES storm water compliance, and other state and federal environmental regulations
- Completing and submitting environmental reports to state and federal agencies
- Data management
- Conducting permit-related site inspections and collecting environmental samples from a variety of media
- Supporting field assignments, and activities, such as site visit, audits, and water sampling
- Preparing tables, charts, and graphics for technical reports
- Interpreting technical reference materials
- Communicating effectively, analyzing and solving problems
- Working under varying weather conditions
- Maintaining effective working relationships with staff and internal/external customers
- River surveys via boat transportation
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or environmental sciences/management or related degree
- Three years or more of relevant work experience
- Working knowledge of EHS laws & regulations
- Working knowledge of environmental systems
- High regard for safety and influencing others to work safely
- Demonstrated success in building effective relationships and influencing stakeholders
- Strong oral, written and presentation skills; as well as, strong functional computer skills, e.g. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Effective dealing with all management levels of employees from new hires to senior managers
