Purpose:
- Support International Paper’s worldwide data network, which is used by all employees, customers and partners across all businesses and geographies
- Plan, design, install and maintain technologies and systems that support enterprise-wide network communications
- Plan, design, install and maintain enterprise network equipment, circuits and configurations, according to standards and procedures
The key customers of this position include but are not limited to:
- All International Paper employees across all businesses who utilize IPs networking technologies and services
- Global Telecommunications managers and staff that provide guidance and direct work
The key actions, outputs, deliverable, products and services include:
- Support and management of International Paper’s data network to meet service levels
- Expand, deploy, refresh and remove all supported data network technologies and services
- Develop and adhere to standard and repeatable processes for the delivery and support of data network services
- Advance enterprise-level data network standards and strategies that support current and future IP business requirements
- Deliver high quality, reliable, stable, and persistently available data network technologies and services, worldwide
Key Accountabilities:
The key accountabilities (outcomes) and actions of this position include:
- Maintenance and support of all data network technologies and services with end-to-end ownership
o Execution of applicable enterprise data networking standards and support processes
o Coordination of staff, facility management and vendor related activities, regarding all service activities
o Participation in applicable Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity solutions and exercises.
o Monitor and maintain applicable facility, campus and/or enterprise service levels
• Strategy and Innovation Leadership
o Contribute to strategic direction relative to the implementation/use of data networking technologies and solutions
o Contribute to enterprise-level data network strategies and objectives that align with, enable and support IP businesses
o Understand the implications of data network technology enablement across geographic and language boundaries
o Identify and leverage integration opportunities of data network technologies into enterprise systems/applications
o Support request for service and break fix tickets
o WAN and LAN reporting using different toolsets for monitoring, metrics and capacity planning
o Manage vendor activities
o Work during appropriate maintenance windows
o Configure routing, switching, SD-WAN, QoS and NetFlow in routers, LAN switches and data center switches
o Support ongoing disaster recovery and business continuity efforts
o Consult with project management teams and business IT on technical projects, requirements and solutions
o Translate requirements, design and engineer new technical solutions for the WAN, LAN and data center
Key Challenges:

- Provide the proper visibility and application of declining, current and emerging data network technologies
- Respond to unplanned and request for service needs, failures, and degradations
- Manage service reliability and availability across multiple technologies and geographies across multiple vendors
- Implement new enterprise-wide shared services
- Support WAN circuit implementation activities and outages according to standards
- Support WAN cellular backup implementation activities and outages according to standards
- Support SD-WAN implementation activities, changes and outages according to standards
- Support LAN switch implementation activities and outages according to standards
- Respond daily to customer trouble ticket requests
- Provide ad-hoc reports using a variety of reporting systems

- Ensure visibility and common enterprise-wide use of all applicable data network technologies and services
- Provide standardized, scalable yet adaptable network solutions that meet varying business/facility requirements
- Develop documentation – write local work instruction to capture and build/edit Visio diagrams of network environment
- Mature and improve all data network technologies, services and processes
Scope:
The scope and impact of this position on the business includes:
- Data network services are provided to all businesses where IP has operations (500+ facilities worldwide)
- Service management and consultation provided, as needed, for all geographic regions where IP has a presence
- 24x7x365 availability inclusive of on call duties, as assigned
Knowledge and Experience:
The qualified candidate will have:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related discipline
- 4+ years of operations experience working directly with data network technologies and services
- 3+ years of experience with International Paper (desired), preferably in Global Telecommunications
- Cisco CCNP Network Professional certification or equivalent experience required
- Cisco CCDP Design Professional certification or equivalent experience desired
- SDN and SD-WAN controller-based management experience desired
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal, business and technical communication skills for management-level audiences
- Demonstrates a drive to succeed, highly self-motivated and ability to learn on the fly
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible with changing requirements
- Works well with team members – professional and courteous
- Demonstrates an advanced understanding and practical application experience of the following technologies, services, vendors:
- Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) and Wireless Backup (3G/4G) data network technologies
- Protocols: Ethernet, MLPPP, PPP, IPSec and cellular data
- TCP/IP and Virtual LANs (VLAN) configuration of switches and routers
- Layer-3 (OSPF and BGP), Quality of Service (QoS), IPT integration, performance monitoring and tuning
- Hardware platforms: Cisco, Riverbed, Other
- WAN providers: AT&T, CenturyLink, Orange Business Services, TaTa, Telefonica and Verizon

- This position reports to the Infrastructure Manager, who reports to the Data Network Manager
